Description

About the Webinar

Training of graduate students to be future scholars often focuses on research design, data collection and interpretation, but commonly the translation of that knowledge to critical appraisal is less developed. The peer review process has been developed to provide a formal structure to evaluate research before it is widely disseminated.  The skills needed to translate research training into meaningful and effective peer reviews need to be fostered during training of graduate students. The presenters will discuss a model of peer review training the guides masters and doctoral students through the critical appraisal process to develop a respectful and thorough review of a manuscript submission. This process includes the ability for students to review the anonymous submission independently. After independent review are complete, a meeting is held to discuss the strengths and limitations of the paper, as well as the broader contribution to the science.
