Dr. Lisa Hark is a renowned medical nutritionist with more than 30 years experience consulting with medical schools about how to integrate nutrition. She is a leading expert and Editor-in-Chief of Medical Nutrition and Disease: A Case-Based Book, now in its 5th edition and used by medical schools as well as physician assistant, and dietetic programs in the U.S. and around the world.
Dr. Hark is currently Professor of Ophthalmic Sciences (Ophthalmology) at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City. She is Co-Director of the Clinical Trials Unit at the Harkness Eye Institute and Administrative Director of Jonas Children’s Vision Care at Columbia University Medical Center.
She was Professor of Medicine and Professor of Ophthalmology at Sidney Kimmel College of Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. She was the Director of the Department of Research and the Glaucoma Research Center at Wills Eye Hospital from 2009 to 2017. She was formerly Director of the Nutrition Education and Prevention Program at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania from 1990 to 2009.
Dr. Hark graduated from Drexel University with a Bachelor of Science in nutrition and biology and completed a dietetic internship at Emory University’s School of Medicine. She obtained her Master’s of Science degree from the Institute of Human Nutrition at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons and a Doctoral degree in education from the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Hark is the Editor-in-Chief of several books published by Wiley including Medical Nutrition and Disease: A Case-Based Approach; The Nurse Practitioner’s Guide to Nutrition; and Achieving Cultural Competency: A Case-Based Approach to Training Health Professionals. In 2004, she edited Cardiovascular Nutrition: Disease Management and Prevention (American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics) and is the author of Nutrition For Life and The Whole Grain Miracle Diet, published by Dorling Kinderslee.
